40th anniversary of BD-Myanmar diplomatic ties

CHITTAGONG, Jan 11: To celebrate 40th year of diplomatic relations between Myanmar and Bangladesh, Hotel Agrabad and Bangladesh-Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry jointly organized 'Myanmar Live Cultural Show and Myanmar Cuisine' at Hotel Agrabad in the city on Monday.

Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Min Lwin was present as chief guest on the occasion. Honorary Consul General of Myanmar HM Hakim Ali and vice president of Bangladesh-Myanmar Chamber Yacoob Md Arif gave details about cultural, historical and brotherly relation between the two countries and urged the concerned authorities to further strengthen it in future.

Mr Lwin said there is high prospect of building greater relations based on friendship. Assistant High Commissioner of India in Chittagong Somnath Ghose and other dignitaries of the city were present.

Artists of Myanmar presented songs and dances which were enjoyed by the attending guests. A food festival of Myanmar was held on the occasion.

On the seventh anniversary of death of the leader of the Awami League Ivy Rahman was observed on Wednesday.

Ivy Rahman, then Awami League Women Affairs Secretary, three days military hospital died in combined on 24 August 2004, after is violated Avenue, in which 24 people were critically, the 21st August 2004 grenade attack on an AL rally on Bangabandhu.

After setting the wreaths of President for the Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, her military Secretary General M Salauddin Miaji placed a wreath at the Tomb.

Box and Mohiuddin became Deputy Chairman of the Parliament of Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, members Suranjit Sengupta Advisory AL and Tofail Ahmed and members of the Bureau of Obaidul Khan Alamgir wreaths on the tomb for the party.

Also wreaths at the grave placed leaders of the Awami League for Mohila and other front organisations of the ruling party.

Then President Zillur Rahman placed wreaths and Fateha in the tombs of the family members of founding President of the country of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who murdered on the night of 15 August 1975 along with Mujib were offered.

The President has also wreaths in the graves of the four national leaders in the same cemetery.

After setting the wreaths, the Zillur son Nazmul Hasan said he hoped that the Government would bring the murderers of his mother to book.
